Make this simple DIY snow globe out of a mason jar.
My son decided he loves snow globes this year and it’s basically the cutest thing ever. We decided to try our hand at making our own snow globes out of mason jars, and it’s seriously easy!
It makes a great Christmas present to give to grandparents or friends (we gave it to some friends who invited us over for a Christmas dinner). But its also a great activity to keep your little kiddos occupied during the winter time!
Here’s a video to share how easy it is- keep reading below for more instructions and tips:
- Mason jars (we used this size to fit our trees)
- Bottle brush trees
- Distilled water
- Glycerin (if you’re buying this in the store, you can get it near the band-aids)
- Glitter – lots of glitter!!
- E6000 glue (or another heavy-duty waterproof glue)
Glue your tree to the inside of the mason jar lid – and then wait 24 hours to let it set:
Fill your mason jar up about 75% with distilled water. Then, add 2-3 drops of glycerin. This will help to thicken the water so the glitter floats slower – but don’t overdo it, or it’ll be too goopy!
Then, add the glitter. When I say add the glitter, I mean LOTS of glitter! I used three different kinds – gold, silver and white. My white glitter was bigger and had an interesting shape. The more variety the beautiful!
Then just fill up to (almost) the top with more water. You’ll want to use the E6000 glue to secure the lid to the glass. Then use it again to secure the metal ring to the mason jar. You want to make sure it’s not going to be able to be opened!
And that’s it! These can be customized with all different sizes/designs…just keep the basic formula the same and you can make so many of these snow globes!
