Learn how to make this DIY welcome sign with a few simple materials – no power tools required! Perfect addition to your farmhouse style home decor.
If you’ve been reading this blog for any time now, you’ll know that I love handmade wood signs. I add them wherever I can in my home!
One of my favorites is our “gather” sign on our front porch. I shared a full tutorial for how I make these wood signs in that tutorial, and it’s a great resource if you’d like to learn how to make your own signs with an easy technique.
DIY welcome sign:
I love that these signs can add lots of farmhouse charm and character to a room, and they’re super simple to make. Here’s my video to show the process I use:
- Trim wood
- Thin plywood
- Heavy duty glue (this is the kind I use)
- A paint pen (these are soooo much easier than painting with a brush)
- Paint & stain (this is the color I used on my sign)
Reference the videos above for the two techniques – here’s the link to technique number 1, and here’s the link to technique number 2.

Super cute sign. I love using those paint pens too, you’re right so much easier than a brush.

I feel dumb, but how are you “tracing”?? Are you cutting through the paper with your pencil? Are the letters cut out of the paper? They son appear to be…
Christina says
not dumb at all! 🙂 Thanks for asking – I am not cutting through the paper…I’m tracing with force and a ballpoint pen 🙂 No cutting involved. Click on the links above to see more detailed tutorials for both methods 🙂

Hi Christina,
Just found your blog tonight and have been reading a LOT of posts. This one intrigued me, but what I’m wondering about is the sign under the wreath to the right of the ‘Welcome’ sign. Is that anywhere on your blog? Can you tell us what it says, and if you made it?
