If you walk into my home, you will quickly see that one of my favorite colors is green. Not bright, flashy Wizard of Oz green…but muted and earthy green. It’s such an inspiring color that brings my love of nature inside onto my walls and into my decor.
I have used many green paint colors in my homes over the years, and today I’m sharing my very favorites! I’ll show you pictures of them in my home, and other inspiring uses of them from around the internet as well.
Just a word of caution: I am showing you these colors in a very true sense on my blog, but you can never trust that paint colors will look the same in your home. Paint varies SO much from house to house, and I always stress that it’s important to sample in your own home before you commit to a color. This way you can be sure you truly love it in your home, not just a filtered picture from the internet!
Best earthy green paint colors in my own home:
1. Benjamin Moore Salamander
This color is an absolutely beautifully rich deep green. We used it in our last house in the bathroom, just in this nook above the bathtub:
And in our current home, we have it in our bedroom. I love it paired with wood tones and white!
2. Sherwin Williams “Retreat”
This color was one I just discovered about 2 years ago, and I truly love it! It’s a mossy earthy green color that’s really beautiful and grounding. Here it is in our kids bathroom (which has zero natural light):
And then in our living room/homeschool room, we used the same paint color:
3. Combine if you’re brave 😬
Rewind to April 2020 – and we were at home allllll the time and weren’t going to any stores for quite some time. We used the paint and supplies we had on hand to make over our hallway (you can see the whole post here). I actually have another mini makeover planned in this space! Coming soon…
But anyways – we combined the first two colors I just showed (Salamander + Retreat) to make this paint color. I truly love it!

This color is a gorgeous moody earthy green paint color: Backwoods by Benjamin Moore. This space by Building Walnut Farm has been one of my favorites for years!
This is another gorgeous example of Backwoods paint color by my friend at Sincerely Marie Designs. You’ll love her whole laundry room makeover!
Sherwin Williams Pewter Green is another gorgeous earthy green color with some gray tones to it – I love it on these cabinets (via Southern Living)
And I do love the clean lines in this bathroom, paired with the natural wood tones and earthy green shiplap. Via M House Development
