Cozy Christmas home decorating ideas:
Lights lights and more lights!
But let me give you a tip – don’t just buy twinkle lights. But specifically lights that have a “timer” function. This way, you can set it and forget it. You’ll be able to set the timers to go on at a certain time every night, and then while you’re in the middle of your evening, you’ll suddenly notice that your house has a cozy glow.
We literally have timer lights allll over our house. If the lights themselves don’t have timers, then I buy these timers to plug them into! It’s my favorite part of these cozy pre-Christmas evenings.
I literally only used lights in our decor that have a timer this year. Totally automated everything! I highly recommend 😉 I found some cute lights that are all on timers if you want to shop for some too! Simply click the pictures below to shop.
Bring out the nostalgic pieces:
Hey, if you get a cozy feeling from browsing the aisles in Target, then go right ahead. I love adding in a few new pieces every now and then, but have really been enjoying pulling out “vintage” pieces lately too.
Like these Christmas village houses – they were given to me when I was a kid and I got to bring them into my own home when we got married. It’s just so fun to have my kids set them up with me now!
Add in cozy textures:
Now, just because you see advertisements where literally *everything*. is Christmas themed…doesn’t mean you have to bring that into your home.
I’m guessing you have cozy blankets, fluffy duvet inserts, and overstuffed pillows in your home. Bring some out of storage (or treat yourself to an extra one or two when you’re at the store!) and overload your home with cozy textiles.
They don’t have to be “Christmas specific”, red or green to bring the cozy feeling during this time of year!
Don’t forget the smell!
Whether you’re a candle aficionado, essential oil lover, or are willing to try your hand at simmer potpourri – don’t neglect your sense of smell during the Christmas season! I’d love to have my kids come visit my house when they’re older, walk in and have it “smell like home”.
For Christmas smells, think: gingerbread, cinnamon, orange, clove, evergreen, and peppermint.
I hope this post gives you some good ideas of how to make some super cozy Christmas days and evenings in your home.
