I seriously love making big decorations out of paper. Remember my (GIANT) coffee filter flower, my rolled book page wreath & my book page flower? It’s just so fun to make something that’s beautiful out of something you had laying on your bookshelf!
My latest creation is this paper leaf wreath:
It’s seriously easy – I promise you can do it! Here’s what you’ll need:
-
Cardboard (I used a pizza box!)
-
An old & unloved book
-
Spray paint
-
Paper bag (optional)
-
Hot glue gun
In order to save money with these wreaths, I usually cut my own circle out of cardboard. This one was just an old pizza box! (please excuse the late night phone pictures … but when you’re a mom of a 13 month old, the only time you get to craft is when he’s sleeping) I also cut out a simple leaf template:
Then I got to work cutting. It’s really not so much cutting if you stack lots of pages together at a time! I thought it was going to be worse.
Once your leaves are cut, you can choose whether you want to leave them plain, or spray paint them. I had some leftover spray paint, so I decided to go a little wild & spray paint some paper at 10 PM (and yes, my neighbors think I’m weird).
For some added texture, I cut out some leaves out of Trader Joe’s paper bags too. I then set everything up (with a Netflix TV show of course):
You’ll want to start on the outer edge – making sure to evenly space all of the leaves. This where you can get creative! I knew you weren’t really going to see the back layers, so I put more book page leaves and paper bag leaves back there. Once I finished a row, I went in about 1/4 of an inch and glued another row. I think I ended up with 6 or 7 rows all together.
I saved the metallic ones for the more visible rows, and I changed the pattern as I went:
I really love how it came out!
I hung it up on my wooden framed gallery wall for some pictures, but it isn’t staying there:
It’s going on our front door – I think it looks great for fall, but can really last all year round:
(can you see my finally finished family room through there??)
Would you try to make this? It’s so customizable – you can really make it your own!

This is so creative and I love that you cut out your own wreath template instead of buying one! I’ve seen so many book page projects I want to try, need to get some old books together first!
