Wood Frame Gallery Wall

I’m learning that as the years go by, styles truly change.  Not only does this apply to clothing and hair, but it really applies to home décor as well!  A few years ago, I was spray painting everything in sight to get rid of wood.  Now, I’m going to thrift stores, buying wood frames, and keeping them wood.  What??  And I’m seriously loving the results, as seen in my wood frame gallery wall:

 

Since we’ve moved into this old house, we’re really embracing the dark wooden moldings and floors.  This definitely gives a warm vibe to the house.  My intention is to keep these warm tones in with the wood, and then to counteract them with some cooler blues and other shades of color. 

By adding modern prints and other elements to the house, we’re able to find a balance between modern/vintage as well as warm/cool colors. It’s so much fun to experiment with, and I’m seriously loving the results!

You might recognize the “wreath” in the middle from my fall mantel last year.  I had some wood cut down at Home Depot, stained them, and added a command hook to make an interchangeable “frame” for the middle of this gallery wall.  I’m excited that I’ll be able to easily change it for different seasons!

Of course having pretty flowers in canning jars always brightens up a room – and we couldn’t have them there without our super simple DIY sofa table!!

The frame on the bottom left is some vintage fabric from my husband’s grandmother, and the painting was actually done by my grandmother!  Isn’t she talented?

The frames on the right side are filled with scrapbook papers, a canvas wrapped in fabric, and some fun straw art I made.

On the top of the gallery wall is some art I made, and I transferred the monogram using this method:

The frames on the left are simple – one is simply painted and then I hot glued a lightweight corbel (thrifted a few years ago) into the frame.  The other frame is just burlap with some pretty paper straws glued onto it.

The seriously awesome part is that none of those frames cost more than 99 cents!!  They were either between 50 and 90 cents a piece – totally in my price range

I LOVE how this really completes our room!!  I’ll have pictures of the full room next week so you can truly appreciate the “before” and “after” of where we’ve come.  It’s so much fun to make over an old house like this piece by piece!
