Fall Activities & Crafts for kids

I know this isn’t a kid’s crafting blog, but I also know that many of you have kids of your own, so I thought you might appreciate some fun fall craft ideas!  The only kind of crafting/creativity I have lately has been kid-related…so that’s all I can share today 🙂

We’re working on learning about the FALL SEASON in my classroom.  We’ll be doing Halloween activites as well once a ltitle more time passes, but for now we’re focusing on the fall.  I love reading fall books, and if you have a Reading A-Z account, you can use a projectable book that the kids can read on level.

In the past, I’ve taken a “Fall Sensory Walk” with my students.  We pick a nice fall afternoon to go take a walk outside, and I have every student carry a clipboard with this paper on it:

For my students who are unable to write their findings on our walk, I draw little stick figure drawings in the blanks and have them circle the things we experienced, and cross out the things we didn’t experience on our walk.

And of course, we love making fall crafts.  I teach mostly first grade, and I forget that they still love to craft!  So much of our time is spend focusing on our math, reading, and writing, that I feel we can’t take time out for crafting.  BUT you can do so much with the craft when the kids are excited about it!

I gave my students 3 fall crafts to choose from, and they got to make one of the three:

Once they finished making their craft (that they are so proud of) they worked on writing sentences about their artwork.  We’re working on writing with details right now, so our big focus would be to pick a few great details to describe their artwork.  I start their sentence for them, (Ex. “My scarecrow has____________” or “My leaf is ______________”)

Some of my students are able to come up with three (or more!) great adjectives to describe their craft. (Ex: “My apple tree is strong, tall, and leafy!”) while some of my students are only able to write on descriptor right now (Ex. “My leaf is red.”)  All of these accomplishments are celebrated equally! 🙂
