Come see the changes we’ve made in our family room decor this season to make it look better and function well for our family. This post is sponsored by Walmart but all opinions are always 100% my own.
Our family room has been the ultimate example of “good things take time”.
It’s been slightly sad over the last 2 years … but we’ve worked to find pieces that work for our room, house, and life stage as we went.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have seen how we just bought a large entertainment unit secondhand. It was exactly what this space needed, and I’m so glad we waited until the right time for the right piece to come along.
As you can see from that photo above, we also added an ottoman to this room! I have to say – I didn’t realize just how much it would help to compliment the room until it was in place. I love how cozy it makes this whole space!
Gap Home at Walmart
This ottoman is part of Gap Home’s exclusive line (it’s only sold at Walmart!). I personally love the timeless and traditional feel it has. It would go with many styles and could work in so many homes!
I also got these cream pillows from the Gap Home line at Walmart:
I feel like they’re the perfect accent pillow. They add texture and interest, but would work so well alongside any other pillows you already have in your space. They’re also great because they can easily work across all seasons in your home decor!
Making this family room cozy:
This room was essentially a big white box. It didn’t have a lot of dimension or characteristics to it that could define it too much. I struggled with how to create a cozy feel in here. While we’re not done (we have a few other “someday” projects planned in here) it feels like a night and day difference in here!
Here’s some simple ways we made this room cozier:
- Added a few large pieces of furniture
- Didn’t clutter up the space with smaller pieces
- Gave it some dimension with dark colors
- Our black front door, dark velvet curtains, and charcoal couch really helped to create a cozier vibe in here.
- Took our time to find pieces we need
- This design WORKS well for our family. It doesn’t just look nice, but it actually functions well.
- Used a variety of wood tones + fabrics
- By mixing and matching different wood tones and fabrics, this room has a collected feel. Collected –> cozy!
