Home decor help: see a simple formula to add function and beauty into small parts of your home. This post is sponsored by Walmart and contains affiliate links – all opinions are always 100% my own.
While Instagram and blogs are allll about the big makeovers, they’re just not attainable for most of us to do very often! They’re so fun to watch and even fun to complete, BUT please don’t be discouraged if you’re not able to do them in your home.
If you take some time to intentionally put some pieces into the pockets of your home, it will really add up over time!
Today, I’m going to show you a simple formula I use to add function and beauty to small spaces. This time, it’s in my parents cabin and not in my own home!
Home Decor Help Idea 1: Add a rug
Rugs do SO much and many people overlook them! In this space, a runner was what we had room for.
This runner is from Walmart’s new line with Dave + Jenny Marrs. It’s really pretty – it’s a wool blend and is such a nice thick runner.

Home Decor Help Idea 2: Add a tray
A tray helps to corral smaller objects together. It makes a space look more intentional, and less cluttered.
I found this tray at Walmart and LOVE IT. It’s lightweight metal, and unique. It’s not high profile, but it makes an impact in a space. It’s so versatile and it would fit with many decor styles.
Home Decor Help Idea 3: Add functional storage
Whether it’s a basket, a vase, a tin, or another decorative storage piece…make it work for you! Storage can be sneaky – it doesn’t have to look like a storage container to be functional.
I picked up this cute little tin for their laundry room, and it holds the clothespins for the clothes line.
Shop this storage piece – under $10!
Home Decor Help Idea 4: Add some personality
I love adding something secondhand to the spaces that I decorate. I found this pitcher in another spot in my parents cabin, and thought it looked so sweet in this space!
And I got this simple frame from Walmart – and added a page from an old book into it. Doesn’t it just fit the cabin vibe so well?

Home Decor Help Idea 5: Add greenery
Since this is in a cabin, I added some faux greenery instead of a real plant. Adding greenery adds some beauty and organic shape to the space, and can really help breathe life into the little corners of your home.
Here’s a post with the best low maintenance real houseplants for your home.
I hope that this has been helpful for you! I also hope that it helps prove that you don’t need a huge budget, a lot of DIY skills, or a large space to make little pockets of your home beautiful and functional. I highly suggest checking out Walmart Home for functional and beautiful items for your home. I personally love shopping there and have for years. Here are some more picks from their website so you can shop their affordable and stylish items for your home (click each picture to be brought to the product page).

Great ideas, these are the easy type of pieces to pick up on antique or other shopping trips. Don’t forget you can add handles to almost any flat like piece to create your own unique trays.
