As you all know, I announced my BIG NEWS on the blog a few days ago. We are *thrilled* to be parents!!
Of course, with this huge news comes the question: how should I tell people?? The news seems too big and life-changing to just bring up casually in conversation.
I’ve rounded up a few ideas that we used, plus some other fun ways I found online to help you announce the big news!
How to announce pregnancy:
- We had these cards printed out at CVS to announce to our parents. The photo developer was beyond excited! I’ll tell you – not everyone understood it right away. We were *dying* while we waited for them to get it – they were looking for someone to be hiding in the background!! Ha! (PS – thanks to our awesome brother in law, we get professional photos for free!)
-
We had people over for New Year’s Eve, and we knew people would be coming in at different times. We thought it would be fun to announce it with our dog, since Buckley always greets people when they come to the door. Again, it was really funny to see how some people got it quickly, and some people just kept petting him and ignored the big tag on his neck
Obviously if you already have a child, you could put this on a t-shirt instead!

We got together with my extended family for Christmas dinner, and there was a group of over 20 of us. We had my husband ask to say the prayer, and he prayed to bless the food. At the end of the prayer he said, “Thank you, Lord, for giving us your Son. Thank you for also blessing Christina and I with our new baby.” The family BURST out with, “What??? REALLY??” It was such a great reaction, and it totally caught everyone off-guard!

I made this to post on FB, but I actually still haven’t done it! Whoops! I think it would be super cute to do this with your actual shoes, but my dog would NOT tolerate sitting for me to take a picture of his paws! This would also be super cute with bare feet (as long as they’re cute)
Here’s some ideas we didn’t do, but they’re also super cute!
-
Get a group of people together for a group picture. When you’re about to take the picture, have the photographer announce, “OK 1-2-3 say ‘Christina’s pregnant’!” Then the photographer can catch the big reaction, and you’ll have a priceless picture keepsake!
-
Invite the ones you want to surprise over for dinner. Once everyone is seated, say to your husband, “I think you left something in the oven.” Then he can get up and pull out a pan from the oven with a roll on it and say, “We have a bun in the oven!”
-
Take a picture of your positive pregnancy test. Add it at the end of a stack of pictures you want to show to a family member or friend. The look of surprise when they get to that picture would be worth of a whole other picture!

How did YOU tell people you were expecting a baby?
Great ideas!!! I like the 1, 2, 3, “Christina’s pregnant!!!!” one lol I think that would be fun to do with friends. Ideas for the (very far off) future!! haha 🙂
I love all your ideas! Very creative!!Congrats again guys!
Wish I could add the photos, my daughter had her son on the beach sitting next to writing that said “I’m gonna be a big brother!” and when she found out the baby’s sex, she did a video clip of a box that said “Pink or Blue, we’ll love you!” written in Pink & Blue no less and then the top opens and my grandson jumps up from the box and blue balloons rise from the box as my grandson says, “It’s a boy!”. Today’s moms sure are lucky to be able to use social media and technology to get the word out!
When my mom had announced her 6th child (I’m number 2) she didn’t even know she was pregnant! My dad big brother and dad were at church and came home late that night ( dads a pastor) my mono told my dad that they went to my grandmas house and my aunt AKA her sis bought her a pregnacy test stick thing as a joke and after found she was actually pregnant! My brother and I saw my mom quietly tell my dad something and my dad cracked up and said “No way! You serious!” Brother thought we were getting a new car. I had no clue. They didn’t tell me and my bro anything until the next day at breakfast!
and my brother until the next day st breakfast
Awesome ideas Christina! I love how your hubby added it to his prayer – totally cool!
Ah you are giving my baby fever & I still have a baby! lol What a fun & special time in your lives… I am so excited for you! We told our family at Christmas… my side we announced during the “go around and say what you’re thankful for” and Trav’s parents I made them a photo calendar and had an ultrasound picture in July when the baby was due. My mom found out because she was in the car when the fertility dr. called to tell I was pregnant, lol.. not as exciting 🙂
Oh my goodness, I am obsessed with these ideas!! You listed a couple I have on my list. Saying the prayer at dinner is one I definitely want to do – that’s top on my list. So is taking pictures and sating “1-2-3 We’re pregnant!!” But I LOVE the idea of putting a positive pregnancy test in a stack of pictures – brilliant!!
What fantastic ideas! I think I like both your photoshoot (at the top) and the “Say 1,2,3,…” options the best. The shoes are really cute too. 🙂 Congratulations – I hope the pregnancy goes really well for you. 🙂

I am a profession photographer, so is my sister. She took some pictures of the us and we mailed them out in cards we had made that said on the front ” guess what…”
On the inside was the picture of us that had wording that said “were pregnant” my 2nd child we made a cousins photo book of a session I did with my nieces and nephews and my child together. The last page in the photo book was an ultrasound picture. Just found out I’m pregnant again! Not sure how we will do it this time:)
