We LOVE our hardwood floors. We were so fortunate to uncover these floors under the ugly carpet that was all over our first floor:
We live life on these floors every day. With a two year old & a 10 month old, we live life hard on these floors every day.
I’ll admit something to you: I am not a natural cleaner. If you would walk into my house on a Wednesday morning, you’d see dirty floors, piles of clean (but unfolded) laundry, toys and books all over. But at the end of every night, we make an effort to truly clean up before we get it all messy again the next day.
We try to regularly clean our wood floors a few nights a week (nothing makes you feel dirtier than when you have a 10 month old crawling all over and eating EVERY speck of dust she can find!)
Here’s my simple tips for keeping your wood floors clean (it’s pretty painless I promise):
- Get everything off of the floor (don’t be tempted to just clean around piles!)
- Dry mop or vacuum the floor to remove all of the dirt & debris
- Use a cleaner that’s specifically made for hardwood floors
- Clean up spills as they happen
- Make a designated space for shoes by the door – this has made a world of difference in our house!
After vacuuming, we’ve been cleaning with Bona® cleaner.
I really like how it’s worked on our floors! It helps get grime off and our floors look so good after I use the Bona PowerPlus cleaner (you can get it at Lowe’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, ACE Hardware and True Value) It’s their most powerful cleaner, and it makes it really simple to clean the floors (which is what I need after a long day on these floors!) This is what I got off after I vacuumed the floors:
And in case you didn’t catch that tip up there – take your shoes off when you come inside! It’s made such a difference with keeping our floors cleaner every day.
