The BEST resource for how to search for vintage farmhouse items on Craigslist – find out which words to use while searching and which words to avoid so you can get the best deals for your home decor.
I love sharing pictures of our home on this site – and especially on Instagram. There’s one problem: I hate it when someone asks me where I got something and I have to tell them they can’t buy it. I get a lot of things on Craigslist, and after many years of obsessively checking perfecting my craft, I thought I’d share my best Craigslist shopping tips with you!
How to search for vintage farmhouse items on Craigslist:
So here’s the deal. It’s usually the case that when people know the true value of what they own, they will price it accordingly (high). But sometimes you can find those true treasures at a low price point when people don’t understand what the items truly are. I’ve found these items from people who are cleaning out a grandparent’s house, or people who are getting rid of items in an old house they just bought. They usually don’t know how to correctly label an item, so this can come to your advantage when you’re searching through Craigslist for these treasures!
Another tip: using the term “vintage” or “antique” can work, but I usually try not to use it. Sometimes people will mark up an item by using those words. BUT you can try to put “old” in front of these search terms instead – it may come to your advantage!
I’m kind of obsessed with this porch from Liz Marie Blog– it makes me want to buy all. the. crocks.
If you’re looking for vintage stoneware crocks, try searching for:
- crock
- ceramic crock
- ceramic pot
- clay pot
- old pot
We bought our church pew that’s at our kitchen table off of Craigslist for a steal (after searching for months!) See more of this space here.
I’m currently searching for a little one like this dreamy one from Nelly Friedel:
If you’re looking for a pew or bench, try searching for:
- wood bench
- pew
- church pew
- wooden bench
- church bench
- bench
It’s my feeling that you can’t get enough pitchers in your house – whether you fill them with flowers, faux greenery, or other vintage finds…the possibilities are endless! (see more of our vintage inspired farmhouse bathroom here)
If you’re looking for farmhouse accessories, try searching for:
- enamel
- enamelware
- pitcher
- ceramic pitcher
I just found a GIANT wood bowl on Craigslist from someone who had inherited a few of them from their grandparents. I wasn’t specifically searching for a “wood bowl”, but I found it using some key search terms.
If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, but you want to hunt for some potential treasures, try searching for:
- farmhouse
- farmhouse style
- farmhouse wood
- old wood
- reclaimed wood
- barn wood
Those suggestions should keep you busy for a little while 🙂 Happy treasure hunting!
