Vintage inspired farmhouse bathroom makeover – full of shiplap, wood ceiling, brick accent wall and mixed metal accents.
I still can’t believe this – but I can’t WAIT to share our bathroom transformation with you today!
Vintage inspired farmhouse bathroom makeover:
It is absolutely my favorite room in the house, and has completely changed in just six short weeks. Well, six long weeks if I’m honest. It’s hard to be without a shower or bath with two little kids for that amount of time! In case you forget what it used to look like…
I share LOTS of makeover and home decorating tips on my Instagram – my favorite! Come follow me there!
I mean – I’ll admit it. I’m proud. We worked hard on this room, and worked hard for two years to save money for this renovation. It’s the last major room in our fixer upper house to be completed, and it feels GOOD.
This is going to be a picture heavy post because I’m just so tired and don’t feel like writing about every detail of the renovation 😉 I do have all of the sources linked at the bottom of this post! And make sure you leave any questions about the space in the comments, I’ll be sure to answer them and edit the post to put the details in later.
Huge thanks to American Standard, Barn Light Electric & Hayneedle for providing some beautiful products for our bathroom.

Your bathroom is amazing! The coolest thing happened the other day. At the very same time I was checking out your week 5 progress last week, my brother text me the link to your bathroom and told me “the vibe of this blog is strikingly similar to yours”. He found you through Barn Light Electric somehow. I’m so in love with your choices and can’t wait to see how your shower turns out!
Christina says
Thank you Tricia! That’s so fun! Love that we have similar styles – off to check out your website now 🙂

Cassie Bustamante says
this looks awesome! i love the lighting you chose! and i love those wood countertops!
Christina says
Thank you so much, Cassie! The butcher block was a last minute decision when we realized our budget was getting too high for the granite we were going to use originally…but I’m loving them so much!!
Brandi says
what is your experience with the butcher blocks? I made my own and plan to stain today… did you run into any issues with cutting holes for the plumbing or the thickness of the wood?
Christina says
We had our plumber cut the holes when he hooked up the sink – he said it wasn’t hard at all, but I can’t speak from personal experience – sorry!
Tammy says
Beautiful bathroom. I’ve purchased all your recommendations to redo our bathroom vanity with that same vessel sink, facet and butcher block. Thanks for the inspiration!
Question: what did you treat your butcher block with and how are the counters holding up?
Christina says
Ahh so exciting, Tammy! Can you share pictures with me when you’re finished??
We finished our countertops with 3-4 coats of satin Polycrylic. They’re holding up beautifully!
Sara says
Seriously, this is the most perfect bathroom I have ever seen! You did a GREAT job. I am absolutely saving this post for inspiration for our master bath. And I LOVE the butcher block counters, they look amazing.
Christina says
thank you so much, Sara!! That is so sweet of you – so glad you could use it as inspiration! <3

Oh my gosh, Christina! I don’t even know where to start. I’ve been following along on IG with your stories so I knew it was going to be fab but it’s even so much more stunning that I had thought! I can’t even pick which feature is my favorite….the lights, the faucet, the sink, the BRICK WALL!!! How about that insane tub!?! You did amazing!! Congratulations…now go sleep for a week 🙂

Jessica | Petal + Ply says
Oh my goodness. I Love this space. The green wall, the tile, the white, the wood. So good!
Stephanie says
I L.O.V.E! THIS!!! I have followed along on Instagram and it’s been fun! Great great job! Love the wall treatments, the lighting, the countertops, all of IT!!! I do have a question tho, and I don’t mean this to be critical in the least, but why a light above one mirror but not above the other? Just curious is all…
Christina says
Thank you, Stephanie! Our vanities are pretty different in size – the smaller one is 34 inches and the bigger one is 50 inches. We wanted to make sure there was enough light over the big one, but thought it would overpower the smaller vanity. So – that’s why 🙂 And thank you so much for your kind words!! <3
Colleen O'Brien says
I don’t understand why there are no pictures of the shower…I’m frustrated with participants only showing one part of the room! We don’t need to see 10 pictures of the sink or couch!
Christina says
Hi Colleen! Did you read the post? I clearly stated that the shower isn’t finished, and I’ll be sharing pictures of it as soon as it’s done.
Nicole Q-Schmitz says
Such a transformation – I’m sure you’re super happy to have this room completed 🙂
Angie @ Slipcovered Grey says
Wow! What a transformation! It is truly breathtaking. You worked so hard and your effort clearly payed off. I think you should go enjoy some time in your new bathtub – and relax. Just beautiful!

Samantha says
Could you please give me more info about how you did the brick wall? It looks A-MAZ-ING!! Thanks in advance for sharing!! 🙂
Christina says
Hey Samantha! I’m working on a tutorial that will share all of that information – stay tuned! 🙂
Cindy says
I am in love with this bathroom!! We are currently remodeling ours and this has given me so much inspiration. I am curious do you have any tutorial on how you put the butcher block countertop and sink together? Also do you know where I can find the tutorial for the mirror?
Thanks!
Christina says
Hi Cindy! I’m working on a tutorial for the mirror – it’ll be coming soon I promise! 🙂 Our plumber put the butcher block & sink together – sorry!! He said it was super simple – but I can’t really help 🙁
Kaitlyn says
I’m really interested in your vanities. I went back through the posts and didn’t see any information other than they came from an Amish cabinetmaker. Can you speak more to that experience (how you found them, the design process, etc.) for those of us who would like to do something similar?
Christina says
Absolutely, Kaitlyn! I’ve had quite a few questions, so it may be easiest for me to write a post about the whole process/experience. Stay tuned!
Kelley Andrade says
I’m also waiting for the Mirror DIY details!! Loving those as well!
Kelley Andrade says
LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about this! We are currently waiting for permits for our master suite addition and this is the look I’m going for in the bathroom!! I have been so back and fourth with counter tops, but you have convinced me – butcher block it is!! I’m also obsessed with the shiplap…I’d do my whole house if I could!!!
Linda McDonald says
Love your bathroom design! Next renovation on our list is the master bathroom. So many wonderful ideas here. Also, I have a linky party on my site and this would be a wonderful addition and a great way to drive traffic back to you. Feel free to ask any questions if you’re not sure what a linky party is. The party is every Tuesday and it is called Creativity & Inspiration Tuesday if you would like to link up. Thanks again for your beautiful bathroom post!
Miranda says
Do you know the dimensions of your bathroom? We are about to renovate ours and am looking for some inspiration. Love it!
Areeba says
Christina, the whole bathroom looks amazing!!! I mean the shower is also going to be stunning – but as is too!!! I’m so happy for you to have this project completed and loved seeing the progress on your stories.
Heather says
Can you guide me to your link on the Amish cabinets that have more info on them. Beautiful bathroom remodel.
Christina says
I e-mailed you 🙂
Mary says
Hi Christina, Lovely bathroom remodel! Could you provide a link to your cabinet hardware?
LISA M DUGAN says
Hi Christine, the bathroom is stunning. Love your choices and how well everything complements each other. We are just about to get our master bath renovation underway and I am trying to make decisions. I am wondering how you like the vessel sinks. I don’t know anyone who has one. Initially, I thought they might be messy to keep after, but now I’m thinking the opposite. I hate the clutter that winds up on the counter, so thinking the vessel kinda blocks that and there must be increased storage opportunity underneath since you don’t lose that top drawer space to the sink. How’s it working out for you?
Christina says
We love it! Just something we didn’t think about – we have standard height counters and the vessel sink adds a few inches to the top, so make sure you’re OK with them being taller. If you’re really short, that could be a problem 🙂 Otherwise – I think it’s easier and less mess too! I think it makes it cleaner and makes the sink look like a decoration in a sense 🙂
Maria Mack says
Did you stain and seal the butcher block countertops, or just stain or seal? If so what type of stain or sealant. This is the first bathroom that has inspired me, so I am totally using your amazing bathroom as my inspiration 🙂 I actually already have thin birch wood counter tops which I did a dark stain and sealed but after almost 10 years the countertop is done! I prefer the lighter butcher block but I just want to make sure it holds up against moisture and water to some degree. Any advice would be awesome.
Christina says
Thank you so much! I’m going to be writing a post about this – I stained them and did 3 coats of Polycrylic (so it doesn’t yellow) I’d love to see bathroom pictures when you’re done!!
Candice says
Hi Christina! Do you mind if I ask what brand & color stain & what type of polycyclic you used on the butcher block tops?? Also, what color paint was used on your cabinets?? I’m starting my very first bathroom remodel & want to get everything right on the first try!! Thank you so much. Your style is amazing!!
Katie says
First of all, I love your bathroom!! Actually, several things from your blog have inspired our renovating choices in our farmhouse that we are redoing. Your home is beautiful!
Second, and I’m sorry if this has already been asked and I didn’t see the reply, but could you tell me what you finished/sealed your butcher block with? We have decided to go with butcher block and a vessel sink in our main bathroom because we have leftover butcher block from our kitchen counters. In our kitchen, we will be oiling the counters, but in the bathroom I would like it to be more sealed. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!!
Katie says
Sorry! I just saw the above comment. LOL
Stacie says
This bathroom is amazing!!! You have two paint colors listed – White Cotton and Salamander. Which one is the wall color? Thanks so much!
Christina says
White cotton is on the shiplap and salamander is above the bathtub 🙂
Vanessa says
Did you do the trim the same color as the shiplap or are they pure white? So pretty!!!
Jen @Jenron-Designs says
Colleen your bathroom is GORGEOUS! Oh my it turned out so good and I know you have to be thrilled at the completion. That is such a a huge change from the before pictures I had to look at them several times to catch it all. Hard to believe you accomplished so much in 7 weeks. Bravo!! Great job!
lavinomalaysia says
Amazing!!!! Just love how you designed this. Totally custom look. This fits perfectly with the rest of your home. What an amazing transformation!
Kim Bean says
I love everything about this bathroom!! The amazon link for the wood cubby isn’t working for me. Do you know approx dimensions? Love!
Christina says
The link looks like it’s working on my end – but here it is again 🙂 Dimensions are in there! http://amzn.to/2sH5Gqf
carla says
Hi how is your faucet holding up in the bathroom sink? The reviews aren’t great on amazon for it but I LOVE It !!
THanks
Christina says
Yes – I’ve seen those reviews too! We have had them for 1 1/2 years and we love them! No issues for us so far – I should write a positive review to balance out the negatives haha
Laura says
I love your bathroom! Did you match the trim paint (baseboard, windows and doors) to the shiplap or paint it trim white? All the trim in our house is white, we just painted shiplap in our bathroom a creamy white and are debating what to do about the trim.
Christina says
Thank you! We did it two different colors – but they’re VERY close so it’s hard to tell
Katie Baker says
I want to start by saying your bathroom yurned out gorgeous!!! My husband and I are are redoing our 1890 Greek revival farmhouse right now. Your bathroom is the same idea as what we are thinking. Where did you get your vanity? I have been searching for a white vanity with wooden top, but can’t find it any where. Please help!!!!!
Jessica says
I’m wondering how the faucet is holding up for you? The reviews don’t seem promising but I love it!
Christina says
I agree that the reviews aren’t great but we still love ours!!
Judi Bowen says
Hi Christina
I know it’s ages since you did this post, but if I’m reading the pictures correctly, it would appear that you’ve used different colour taps on your washbasins to those on the bath, and yet another different colour in the shower, if this is right, would you mind telling me if you’re happy with all the different finishes now that you’ve been living with them for a while, only I’m in the process of refurbing one of our bathrooms at present, and having already bought a chrome finish shower, am now lusting over antique gold taps, and was wondering if it would look odd in real life? Hope you don’t mind me asking?
