Mini outdoor makeover with no major renovations. The addition of wooden shutters and budget-friendly outdoor furniture makes for a great makeover! Thanks to World Market for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. This post contains affiliate links –full site disclosure here.
We’ve worked SO hard at making over the inside of our 1902 Victorian, and now that the weather’s warming up, we’re moving the work outside!
We *love* spending time outside with our family, but the outside was totally sad when we moved in. It was overgrown, ugly, and not cared for at all. After removing dead trees & overgrowth, we were left with a slightly blank canvas. A dingy blank canvas – ha! The outside of our house still has a LONG way to go, but we’re making over little sections at a time.
Here’s what the side of our garage looked like a few weeks ago, and here’s what it looks like now:
Our outdoor makeover:
Ah! A few little things have made such a big impact in that space! We didn’t do anything to our siding, our roof, or anything else major. We added some DIY wood shutters (simple tutorial to come!) and some great cost-effective pieces from World Market, and it looks like a totally different space.
I have dreams of having beautifully lush yard with tons of different flowers that are thriving – which is one of the reasons I got this potting bench (no longer sold but this one is REALLY similar)
yellow planter // potting bench // lantern // outdoor candles // stool
I mean, if an adorable potting bench like this doesn’t inspire you to be a better gardener, I don’t know what will. I love it so much! I tested it out already and potted about 10 flowers – I’m trying my HARDEST not to kill them within the first few weeks of their lives.
And we desperately need more seating for when we have people come over, so this Adirondack chair was a no-brainer purchase. It’s simple, comfortable & versatile. We can switch outdoor pillows to change up the look – love this for summer!
See those mason jars? They’re solar powered lights! What?! I got the hooks from JoAnn Fabrics of all places, and the mason jars have the best glow at night. I can’t wait to enjoy evenings out here this summer!
If you’ve got electric outlets outdoors (we have ONE – far away from here) then there’s lots of great outdoor lighting options here.
My son’s already obsessed with that stool – it’s been a surface for picnics, a place to sit, and something to stand on while he “helps” me pot plants. So cute!
The shutters & furniture have kicked off our outdoor makeovers for the summer, but we’re definitely not finished! I can’t wait to share more with you – make sure you’re subscribed to my free monthly e-mail newsletter so you can see our progress this summer!

Your potting bench is adorable, and I love the shutters. I have plans to make some like that, some day. 🙂

Love your shutters! What size clavos (decorative nail heads) did you use?
