I hadn’t planning on writing this post for another week or so, but little girl had other plans!
Meet the newest addition to our family – miss Heidi Mae:
Heidi means “noble and kind”
She entered the world weighing 6 lbs and 14 ounces – our tiniest baby by far!
I was sitting at the computer on Sunday evening, finishing up some work and hoping to get to bed soon. I had been having very inconsistent contractions for about a week already, but they were never anything to get excited about. I was having them again on Sunday evening, but didn’t think much of it. But then I had some fluid leaking, and suddenly I started wondering if there was more going on. I had never gone into labor on my own – I was induced with Isaac and ended up having a c-section after laboring for 24 hours and pushing for 2 with him. Nora was a scheduled c-section after her growth ultrasound showed her chest measurements had grown too fast and they worried about a safe vaginal delivery. So after having two prior c-sections, this one was automatically going to be a scheduled c-section, and we had it all pretty well planned out for the day after our tenth wedding anniversary (Friday June 15th)
So when I started having contractions 4-5 minutes apart at midnight on the 10th, I panicked! I’d never gone into labor on my own before, I wasn’t supposed to be going into labor at all, and we still had five days left until my scheduled c-section. I woke up my husband from a dead sleep, and we quickly called my mom to come over and stay with the kids who were sleeping. In the 15 minutes it took for her to get to my house, the contractions were getting more intense and closer together. By the time we got to the hospital, they were consistently 2 minutes apart and I was getting pretty uncomfortable.
After what seemed like forever (but really wasn’t) they determined I was in active labor and had to get me into surgery. And just like that, Heidi was born at 2:40 AM on June 11th!
The kids woke up to my mom at the house and were so confused as to why the baby had come early – there were still 5 days left on our countdown!
By the time they got to the hospital, they were thrilled to meet their new sister! Isaac is happy to be the big protector brother of two little girls, and he is ready to take his job very seriously.
And Nora is THRILLED to have a sister – she’s been saying “I want a girl baby!” for months now, so she is so incredibly happy. I see these two having lots of fun together in the future!
I’m writing this post from my hospital bed, where I’ll be resting up, recovering from surgery, and nursing little Heidi for the next few days. Everyone is doing well, and your prayers are always SO welcomed and appreciated! It’s been a LONG pregnancy (getting diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 14 weeks was a doozy) but all of the hard work managing that has paid off, and we have a happy and healthy baby girl. Her sugar levels were great as she was monitored after delivery (which was something I was really worried about) so that was a huge relief to me.
Things will be slower on my site for the summertime – and I know you guys understand that! Thank you for being the best community in the world – I love you guys!
