There’s just something about being snowed in close to Christmas that makes me want to bake cookies. Maybe it’s the way the oven helps heat the house a little more, maybe it’s the smell of the cookies cooling on the counter, or maybe it’s snuggling in your sweats and enjoying some freshly baked cookies with the people you love. I think it’s a combination of all three for me! These snowball cookies are my go-to recipe for those snowy days. They rarely last 3 days in our house though – they’re SO good we eat them way too quickly.
I love that they’re only 6 ingredients too – super simple!
Get your kids involved with rolling the cookies into the powdered sugar at the end (if you don’t mind a mess of course)

- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups finely chopped walnuts (or pecans)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Powdered sugar (for rolling)
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Mix all of the ingredients except for the powdered sugar.
- Roll the dough into 1 inch balls.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Let cool for 5-10 minutes, then roll each cookie in powdered sugar until fully coated.
- Enjoy!
What’s your favorite snowy day tradition?
Being snowed in is the best! Except…when I had to go to work haha. Such a beautiful snow we got though – these cookies look super yummy!
My sister loves these cookies so much, we had them as favors at her baby shower 🙂 We call them mexican wedding cakes!
