My “baby” boy is starting preschool in a few short weeks. I am so excited for him one minute, and then a few minutes later I start to get choked up about it.
I really think he’s ready. I do. I also think it will be such a growing experience for him. But at the same time, it’s bittersweet knowing our days of having “just us at home” are coming to an end.
We’re beginning a new phase of life where we have a schedule, and we can’t just hang out in our pajamas until noon. We have to start thinking about getting outfits ready the night before, packing up his backpack, and having to be in the car at a certain time two mornings a week.
And man, I know his sister & I will miss having him around.
But at the same time, I’m so excited for him. It’ll make the days that we do have at home, with just us, that much more special. I’m excited to see him grow and learn. I’m excited to give him the biggest hug after a morning at preschool and hear all about his day.
So while I’m tearing up thinking about a season of our life that is coming to a close, I’m choosing to remain joyful and excited about all of the fun things we have to look forward to.
We’ll also be sending him to preschool with the cutest outfits from Gymboree. I’ve always loved how their clothes are cute but super comfortable for little kids.
Both of my kids can move and play easily in their clothes, and they look super cute while doing it!
Gymboree wants to celebrate the beginning of school with you – and they’re giving one of you a $50 gift card to help with back to school shopping!

“Don’t let me make my own lunch!”
Been there, done that with my kiddos. Love your little girls shoes.
I’m not sure what advice I can give because we are entering the same season of life! ?
I love the little person running around with the big airplane in the background!
Christina,
Enjoy the time with just you and sweet Nora and get Isaac excited about school. I remember feeling the same way with Madison and just this overall realization that it was no longer just our time anymore. But now he can practice being that little person you’ve helped to shape outside of your sweet family. It really is neat to see that blossom.
Enjoy!

I like that they gave the credit to the parents at the end with the “you make everything happy”
i can’t believe Isaac is going to preschool in just a few weeks!! he is going to love it, and I know you are going to miss him. Sorry, i’m not there yet, so I don’t have any advice. 🙁
Just keep saying to yourself, “Roots and wings….roots and wings.” You’re providing the roots he needs to feel secure and grow his confidence in order for him to be able to leave your nest one day. You got this, Mom!
Christina-you will do fantastic with this new routine. It is so much more difficult for us than them. I would definitely suggest picking out clothes the night before. I’m not sure how he is with clothes but my son needs to know ahead of time his clothes and we stick with whatever was chosen. No changes to that the next morning!! ? I also like to have pack packs by the front door just in case. There have been an occasion or two where this was forgotten. Oh and any papers that need to be filled out, do it right away instead of putting it in the “pile” where it gets forgotten and lost. He will love school!!! And you will love more time with just Nora! Good luck Momma!!
I can so relate! I choose not to do preschool and am now sending my oldest to kindergarten. I’m so sad to let him go and will miss my time with him but am excited for him to spread his wings (and to spend more time with his little brothers).
Ahh no advice yet because I’m right there with you! Hoping we find a new “normal” and everyone will love school 🙂
So exciting to start preschool! We put our daughter in a 2 year old class last year and now she is so excited to get back to school and talks about it nonstop. My biggest motto right now is “Enjoy this season” and I’m enjoying the days leading up to school, but I also know we will all enjoy things once school starts and we’re back to a regular schedule.
Enjoy the ride, mommas!
From the video, I really liked the advice about not walking them in and if we had to no hand holding. I think this is good advice for older kids.
Oh I would have to say my advice would be to wake up early so you can enjoy the morning and getting ready for school each day! Our little one will start 1st grade this year. Last year I noticed that if we rushed in the morning, the day was harder on him.
Oh my favorite moment in the video was the kids being silly and just being kids! Loved the little boy in the back running with the airplane!
I loved the little girl at the end with her leg kicked sideways— little fashionista working the camera! All of the kids are adorable~
My advice for mommas with kids entering school this fall… Tell your kids to do their best and have fun every morning before they leave for school!
My advice is to make a huge deal about being a big boy/big girl now. We had a countdown to the first day of school and of course we read the book, The night before preschool. (They have this series for every elementary year and events like ballet recital, etc)
My third of four is going to prek soon and it is heartbreaking…it happens so fast!
My favorite part of that movie was the part where the little girl said, ‘we need you!’
Sometimes it gets hard sending our babes to school. And it’s hard balancing the ones in and the ones out. It’s hard feeling like you have to let them grow and you have to still hold them.
My advice? Don’t stop holding them. Push them to do well, push them to do things on their own, but hold those arms out ALWAYS so they have a soft place to land when they’re home.
I would advise the parent to visit the school with your child and meet the teacher. I believe this definitely helps break ground for the first day.
I like the little girl yelling, “Things Are About to Get Real”. Cute video!
