I had my first day of summer vacation yesterday, and the first thing I did was make my summer wreath. Is that pathetic? I don’t really care! I am seriously in love with my DIY summer wreath:
I’m a little obsessed with yellow and navy this summer – these images from Pinterest only make me love it more:

I am on a “no-spending spree” right now, so I had to make this wreath with materials I already had in my stash. I had a wreath form from the Dollar Store leftover, and I had a navy blue fabric remnant. I cut the fabric remnant (not exact, just eye-balled it) and wrapped it around the wreath, over-lapping every layer:
I secured it every few inches with a little bit of hot glue on the back of the wreath. I really liked how the fraying edges gave it some dimension and texture.
Since I love navy and white stripes, I wanted to replicate that on this wreath, so I took some white scrap fabric and cut it in 1 1/2 in strips with my rotary cutter.
Then I made “stripes” with the white fabric and secured them on the back with hot glue.
Then I dug up any fabrics that had yellow in them from my craft closet. I shared this picture on my Instagram (follow me!!)
I made the big flower using this tutorial from Infarrantly Creative, and the white & yellow polka-dotted flowers using this tutorial from All Things Thrifty (I didn’t make them full flowers because I wanted them to fit alongside of the big flower), and made rosettes to finish it off just like I did with my plywood artwork.
I placed the big flower, and then the rosettes on the wreath.
Then I tucked the two other flowers in to finish it off:
Hung it on my door with two ribbons placed on top of each other, and secured it to my door:
I love my new summer wreath – it reminds me that it’s truly SUMMER every time I open my door!
I also really love that this entire project was *free*!
In some weird way, I believe that *now* my summer can start!
