If you’ve ever tried to find a long curtain rod to go over a big window, you might have been as shocked as I was about how expensive they are. Over $100 for a curtain rod?? Craziness! I liked these metal ones from West Elm, but didn’t want to pay that pricetag. I decided to make my own copper pipe curtain rod instead:
I also wanted to try something a little different, so I went with copper instead of another metal. I’ve kind of been loving copper lately – it’s so fresh and fun!
Just go to the piping section of your local hardware store, and get the width of pipe you want. The price of the piping will vary with the width of the pipe – mine was about $20. I actually used the entire length of the pipe for our window, but you might have to cut yours down.
Don’t be scared if you have to cut it down! Just use a hacksaw (not expensive if you don’t already have one) and then you can cover any jagged edges with copper piping caps (affiliate links). I used the caps just to finish off the pipes a little bit more. You’ll need to buy brackets too – I bought mine on clearance at the Restoration Hardware outlet near me.
I think these curtains fit really well in the room – they make just enough of a statement without taking away from the beauty of our big window. Make sure you check out this post to see all of the details of how I made the decoration over our bed (and some lovely “before” pictures from when we moved into the house!!)
I got the curtains from Ross for $10 (for both panels!) I love that store for home accessories!
I love that our curtain rod, brackets, AND actual curtains cost under $50 total! Just proves again that it doesn’t have to cost a lot to look beautiful!
