Come get a peek at our plans for a vintage inspired cozy family room design – on a budget. Mood board, textiles, and paint all included! This post contains affiliate links – full disclosure here.
Well we did it. We took our Christmas tree down 2 days after Christmas – which may be the earliest we have taken it down!
While the family room was in a state of disarray, we decided to try a new furniture arrangement. We had been talking about a mini makeover in this room, but hadn’t planned on another furniture arrangement. I was so glad we tried it – we are really loving the new placement!
Vintage Inspired Cozy Family Room Design Ideas:
This whole room design idea came because I wanted to add more coziness to my space. I mean, are any of us surprised? 😆
I am hoping to add some vintage timeless feel to this room. It could use some more character, and I am hoping I can do it on a budget with some picture frame molding and new paint.
Of course when I got looking into it a little more, I decided I would want new curtains and a rug as well. It won’t happen all at once but it’s a process I’ll be sharing on Instagram as I go along!
Here’s some pieces I already have and the direction I’m planning on going with the family room design:

Adding wall treatments:
I am hoping to add some wall treatments to the walls (that are currently white) in our family room. I will be painting over the dark wall and making it a creamier tan color, and also will be painting the white walls a moody dusky blue color.
We don’t have a lot of wall space to cover in this room since we have the large entertainment unit, but I think some picture frame molding will go a long way in this space.
Here’s a picture that inspired me:

I just love finding some inspirational images. They might not really be how I want the room to look at the end, but they help to guide the design process. These images also help to convey how we want the room to feel:

Love the blue walls and molding. I have the same recliner saved. Thinking about putting it in my master bedroom. Do you love it?
So excited to see all your changes! Love all your ideas & I know they will be beautiful!
Excited to see the blue walls! And I love when you do wall treatments. I’d love to do some at my house but I’ve never done anything like that.
Happy New Year!
