2021 Home Decor fall trend report: all that’s trending in home decor for fall this year. Be inspired to purchase a few new pieces, or rethink pieces you already own!
Fall. It’s seriously my favorite. The crisp evenings, the cozy sweaters, the first fire in the wood stove…it’s just the coziest season (without the painful cold that comes in the season that shall not be named).
By sharing some fun fall home decor trends, I hope to inspire you to bring that cozy feeling into your home this season. However, I don’t want this to be a post that makes you dump all your old home decor pieces. Instead, I hope it inspires you to take a fresh look at what you already have, and then see if you want to add a few new pieces in to freshen up your home decor this fall.
Let’s get inspired!
1: Warm earth tones
Goodbye to cool shades of gray! It’s time to welcome the warmth that comes so naturally at this time of year.
Think: creamy whites, shades of beige, and then warm fall tones mixed in. Shades like terra cotta, deep gold, and burgundy. Let me show you what I’m talking about with some of these beautiful examples:

2: Texture!
Ok so this isn’t truly a trend – I try to add texture in every space in my home. But fall is the perfect time to pile on the texture.
Think: rattan, wicker, macrame, cable knit.
I love the texture of old books without covers – but also that stone, the mirror frame, the textiles…all so many textures in one space!

3: Natural wood tones
Want to add some warmth to your space for fall? Embrace worn and natural wood tones. Whether it’s through furniture or decor accents, it doesn’t matter! If you don’t have a stunning wood ceiling like this one below:
You can still shop around for some beautiful wood pieces. My favorite place to shop for this? Thrift and antique stores! And don’t forget about Facebook marketplace too!
4: Velvet
The rich luxurious fabric is surprisingly versatile. It’s warmth is perfect for the falling temperatures, and it’s so comfortable, you can’t help but sit and stay a little while longer!

Easily add touches of seasonal velvet into your home with throw pillows. Here’s some great ones – just click on the picture to shop If you don’t see the color you like, click on it to see if there are more colors available. Many of them have multiple colorways!
Trend 5: Brown
While brown has taken a backseat in falls past, it is now being warmly embraced in the design world. Check out these images and see how beautiful rich and deep brown tones can make a space feel inviting:

6: Tartan Plaid
This is another one that isn’t necessarily new, but I’m seeing a lot of it popping up this fall! Instead of the buffalo check, see if you can add in a tartan plaid throw or pillow cover. I love this look here:

7: Vintage art
While I’d argue this never goes out of style, it’s making a really big splash this season! If you’re lucky enough to score a beautiful thrift store oil painting, then hang that proudly. If you’re not quite as fortunate, there’s a lot of art sources online!
I scoured through thousands of images on the Smithsonian’s website, and found some beautiful vintage prints that have a real “fall mood”. If you want access to them, simply add your e-mail in this box here:
