I *love* Mason jars. Like, love them!! I was inspired when I saw this idea for outdoor mason jar lights from the Shabby Nest…and I knew I had to try it!
Remember how I got free Mason Jars from FreeCycle? I used a bunch of them for my students’ Mother’s Day vases…but I had a few of them leftover.
I filled them up with some old white rice and dried beans…
And then plopped in some white/ivory candles I had in stock:

If you have some wire. you could wrap it around the mouth and create a hook to hang them!

There is nothing more charming than candlelight in the garden. If I don't get all of the canning done this season this is a great use for my Mason jars!

I did this too! Filled the bottom with sand and wrapped an american flag ribbon around the outside. The light shone through and the ribbon lit up! I can't wait to try it with other ribbons for different occasions!

Oh my goodness I LOVE this!! I am so going to make some of these – I think I have some sand that I could use for starters because I don't have the beans or the rice on hand currently. I am also hooked on Mason jars – I can't walk past them without looking them over. Thanks for sharing!

Have used Mason jars filled with all sorts of dried foods for a few years now. My favorite is coffee beans- especially nice smelling in the fall! 🙂

This is a great idea for using mason jars. They look pretty both in daylight and lit at night.
And I love summer nights, too! My favorite time of the year.

This is lucky for me-
I just bought 3 mason jars yesterday at the flea market.

Great idea! Before kids we always had candles burning on the front porch in the summer. This will be a great way to get the ambiance of the candle light but keeping them safe at the same time…thanks!

I would use aquarium gravel in these. If you get the beans or grains wet, they will mold. Yuck! You can also use gravel in colors to match your decor. You can even use several colors and layer them. If the gravel gets soiled just use a colander and a garden hose to clean it, dry it on a screen or table and return it to the jars after it has dried.
