Showing simple tips for how to add subtle summer touches to your bedroom – and in a budget friendly way too! Thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post – as always, opinions are always 100% my own. This post contains affiliate links – full disclosure here.
If you’ve been here for any amount of time, you know that I love switching up our rooms, but I don’t always love the big price tag that can come with that. I was able to add lots of function in our bedroom with a few simple new pieces that didn’t blow my budget – here’s what I did!
What I changed:
We used to have a small end table in this space next to our door. It was cute! But it only had one little drawer. I had baskets under it, and while it didn’t look terrible, it looked kind of messy and didn’t function really well for our needs. Since we’re in an old house that’s more limited with closet space, this dresser provides much needed storage.
The previous setup looked much more cluttered than this does. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m working on streamlining our decor in a MAJOR way. Maybe it’s just this crazy busy stage of life with 3 kids 5 and under…who knows. But I am LOVING a more clean and functional approach to decorating! It’s doing wonders for quieting my soul – especially in our bedroom where we do NOT want to be greeted with clutter when we wake up in the morning!
Plus the dresser is WAY affordable! I really really love this piece – it comes in two colors and is just the perfect size. It was a beast to put together, but now that it’s done I can just block that out of my head 😉
Decorating on top of a dresser:
I’ve had many people ask me what they should put on top of a dresser besides a mirror. I think that the top of your dresser can quickly become a dump zone, and can look cluttered. Again, your bedroom should be a relaxing retreat, and you don’t want to start and end your day staring at clutter. I love a simple glass vase with some faux stems in it:
And as for the wall above a dresser? If you don’t need a mirror there, then I love a good larger scale piece of artwork. This particular one that I found at Walmart is affordable and I love how it fills the space on top of the dresser so well. It’s the perfect summer/spring piece and I can easily switch it out for something else in the fall/winter months (buttt I don’t think I want to haha!) I love it so much!
