Our house tour is finished and was a big success! I shared more about it on my Instagram if you’re interested in reading more about it!
We were super busy working on projects up until the last minute, and one of the quick projects I made were these DIY wood slice ornaments:
I am in love with them! I also love that they won’t just be used for ornaments, but I’m planning on tying them onto gifts we’re giving this year as well. Also – they would look SO cute strung in a little wood slice garland!
Here’s a quick video tutorial that shows how to make them – keep reading below for more details:
What you’ll need (affiliates included for your convenience):
- Wood slices (you could cut your own, but I bought mine from here and it was SO much easier!)
- Drill
- Printable template
- Paint pen (I used fine because it’s what I had – but I’d recommend extra fine)
- Pencil
- Ballpoint pen
- Ribbon
The wood slices I bought were 2-3 inches wide – I found that was the perfect size for the template we made.
And don’t worry if you don’t have beautiful handwriting – I had my “assistant/nanny/friend” Kayla work her magic, and she made up beautiful templates for you to trace onto your own ornaments!
I’ve made large wood signs (you can see the most popular one here). I use a different technique there, but for this small project, I found this technique to work the best.
Cut out your template, and cover the back of the text with pencil:
Then place your paper on the wood slice, and trace over it firmly with a ball point pen:
You’ll be left with an outline for your word:
And then you can fill in your outline with a paint pen:
We included 3 different versions of this ornament for you to use – I love how they look together!
They look perfect on our rustic farmhouse Christmas tree:
