This past weekend I had the priveledge of teaching women how to make this sign in my own home, and I thought you may enjoy a written tutorial as well!
It’s SO simple, and just proves again that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make a beautiful home that you love. This sign will cost you just about $10 to make.
DIY wood Noel sign:
What you’ll need for this project:
- Wood (mine is 16″ x 24″ – I got mine cut down at the hardware store)
- NOEL template (print it here)
- Ballpoint pen
- Tape
- Small paintbrush
- Glue gun
- Paint
- decorative sprigs from the craft store
- hangers (LOVE these – just hammer them in)
First start by printing out your template (I made it for you & it’s free!) Get everything lined up and taped together so it’s all secure.
Then you’re going to want to use this method I use for about 85% of my wood signs (this wood sign tutorial is by FAR one of my most popular posts of all time). You’re just going to secure your paper down to the wood, and trace the letters with a ballpoint pen. You’ll need to use a little bit of muscle, but you won’t need to break a sweat 😉
You can see the indentations of the ballpoint pen tracing in this picture – it’s easiest with a lighter paint, but this still works:
Then you’ll just fill it in with some paint (I usually use whatever leftover interior paint I have, but you can always use acrylic paint from the craft store too). Just fill in the lines with a small paint brush:
I added a little something cute to the “O” in the sign, but this obviously doesn’t need to be done, and it doesn’t need to look the same as this one either! I got these sprigs for under $4 at the craft store, and hot glued them directly on top of the O:
Then I added these hangers on the back (LOVE that you just have to hammer them in!)
And got it hung up on our wall! This sign was actually made for a friend, so I just took some quick pictures of it in our bedroom…but it was only there for about an hour 😉

Simple, budget friendly, and I think this Noel sign is seriously cute!
