Our budget friendly small bathroom makeover – complete with luxury vinyl plank floors, beadboard wallpaper, and DIY projects anyone can do!
It’s been 1.5 months since I shared our budget friendly small bathroom makeover plan, and I am honestly shocked at how quickly this bathroom came together! In the meantime we had Christmas and New years, and of course…just life homeschooling the kids and working. This makeover was done on a tight budget and I LOVE how it turned out!
Come on in and see the transformation in this small space:
Our small bathroom makeover:
I worked hard to document the whole process on video…take a few minutes to walk through the process with me by clicking “play” on my bathroom makeover video! Then make sure to keep scrolling to see the finished pictures and sources (at the bottom of the post)
You know what I love about this makeover? Anyone can do it!
We made this chunky wood mirror frame to use with our existing mirror.
We made this same frame in our last bathroom makeover – click here to see the instructions for this easy DIY project that so many people have re-created in their own homes!
Paint colors for the bathroom:
We used leftover paint that we already had on hand for this makeover. By doing this, we saved money, but we also made the bathroom decor fit with the rest of the house.
Here’s the paint colors we used:
- Green: Sherwin Williams “Retreat”
- White: Untinted Benjamin Moore semi gloss trim paint (which is what we use on all of the trim in our home)
- Dark gray (on the vanity): Sherwin Williams “Iron Ore”
How we saved money on this bathroom makeover:
We had so many opportunities to save money with this makeover! Here’s how we saved money:
- We kept the existing vanity, and just painted over the bottom part.
- Installed affordable luxury vinyl planks over the existing floor.
- Didn’t touch the shower/bath, but adding a new shower curtain freshened it up a lot.
- DIY’ed our wood mirror frame.
- Installed the new light fixture on our own.
- Bought affordable art on Etsy.
- Used affordable bead board wallpaper to add character to the walls.
I really can’t believe how far this little bathroom has come in such a short amount of time!
It’s the perfect space for our kids to have as a shared bathroom space, but also can serve as a guest bathroom for anyone who is visiting us. It also fits so well with the rest of our house – I just couldn’t be happier with how it came together!
Make sure you follow me on Instagram if you have questions about the space – I’ll do a Q&A in my stories soon!

Your bathroom looks great! Just curious how “real” the bead board wallpaper looks in person? I’d love to do this in our 1st floor powder room!
Thanks for sharing!
Christina says
Thanks Michelle! I’ve gotten a few people asking about the beadboard wallpaper on Instagram, so I’ll share some details about it in my IG stories! 🙂

The bathroom turned out gorgeous, Christina!!
Thanks for sharing!! 🤗😍🤗
Annie Brink says
Sorry can’t tell but is the sink vanity the same color as the wall? It looks so so good! Thanks for giving us the sneak preview! Can’t wait to hear about the bead board …
Christina says
Hi Annie! No, the sink vanity was painted “iron ore” (a really dark gray) 🙂

This makeover is so inspiring!! I think I’m ready to take on my kids’/guest bath now! Quick question, could I do the mirror tutorial to frame an existing frameless mirror (regular builder grade house over here 🙃)? If so, would I just glue the wood frame to the front of the mirror?
Christina says
thanks Brittany! I so appreciate those kind words! And yes – that’s essentially what we did too. We had a mirror with a simple white frame, but we removed the white frame so we had a frameless mirror to adhere to the back of the wood frame. I hope that makes sense!
Brittany T. says
Yes, thanks!

This remodel is beautiful and practical! Another job well done!
Melinda says
Love it!! Was the wallpaper a drag to put up? Extra love the mirror with the brackets for interest!
Christina says
this was a small space so it really wasn’t too bad! The nice thing is there’s not a pattern to match up and that makes for a lot less waste!

I love love love how this came out!!!!
Christina says
Thanks so much Kerri!! We’re so happy with how it came out too!
Angela says
Is the vanity countertop beige? Our powder room appears to have the same top, beige with gold-ish places in it. Love how it looks with the cabinet painted that color. Thank you
Christina says
hey Angela – yes it’s beige and the shower/bath is almond too. It’s crazy how it doesn’t really bother me anymore now that we’ve updated around it! 🙂

Beautiful!!
Just curious, how is the wall paper working out? I wanted to add wall paper and husband said no because with the steam from the shower (I like hot showers 😀 ) the paper won’t last.
Christina says
No issues from condensation at all! I will say it’s kind of easy to “dent” it – my kids have left scratches in it by the toilet 🙁 But no issues with peeling in a bathroom
